Meet Dr. Souza

Meet Laura Souza, DDS

Born and raised in Brazil, Dr. Souza earned her first dental degree at Universidade Federal of Rio Grande do Sul in 2008, on a full scholarship. While on vacation in San Diego, she fell in love with the city and has stayed ever since. After relocating, she became involved in periodontal plastic surgery and even had the opportunity to work at the Nordland Oral Microsurgical Institute (NOMI) in La Jolla. Dr. Souza was later granted her second dental degree at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. When Dr. Hornbrook heard she was getting her second dental degree in the United States, he was excited that she would be able to join him at the Hornbrook Center for Dentistry. Dr. Souza published a paper in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry and she also co-authored the “Periodontal Plastic Surgery” chapter for the book “Esthetics in Dentistry”.

Dr. Souza has always admired Dr. Hornbrook’s talent in dentistry and is very excited to join the team. Outside of the office, she also works as a certified yoga Instructor and spends most of her free time between yoga, playing with her dog, and going to the beach. She has just recently taken up bodyboarding and is enjoying spending more time in the ocean. She likes to visit her hometown in the south of Brazil every year to spend quality time with her family and friends.
